Well Mussoorie had always been on my must travel list since I had seen it in my childhood but had forgotten almost everything about how it looked. So I wanted to see it again and experience the lovely weather there away from the scorching Delhi heat. So finally we packed our bags and started for Mussoorie, the hill station in northern India also known as 'The Queen of Hills'. After 45 minutes drive from Dehradun, we reached the Mall Road which was really crowded and congested. We thought, ''Why not see the Kempty falls first''. So we began our journey to the falls.
Kempty falls are further at a distance of about 13 km from Mussoorie and is one of the most popular spots for tourists going to Mussourie. And the road between Mussourie Mall Road and Kempty falls is so dreamy and beautiful, dominated by the scenic landscapes of lofty Himalayan mountains, lush green vegetation, clear sky which will surely make you fall in love with the nature.
The journey to the falls was itself so invigorating that you never get to know how the distance gets covered so fast. You are engrossed in admiring the nature's beauty and suddenly you realize "Oh we have reached our destination". Such is the magic of the beauty of landscapes.
We parked our car on the road nearest to the falls. The place looked alot commercial with a market sprawled around the tourist spot. There were a lot of restaurants and many shops selling handicrafts.
This place was alot crowded too.
There were two ways to reach the falls-either you could walk down the stairs to reach the falls or you could take cable car if you are not a big fan of walking. Well I love walking and so wanted to walk down to the falls but scarcity of time was another factor that prompted me to take the cable car. We took tickets for the cable car and after a wait of just a minute we got our turn to alight the car. A single car can accomodate about 4-5 people at a time. Going down the slope by car was itself thrilling.
Within another one minute we reached down to the base cable car station located near the Kempty falls. Once we got down the cable car we had to take a staircase upwards to finally reach the Kempty falls site . And finally here we were... In front of the milky white mighty falls. Well the falls offered such an awesome view that i was awestruck for a minute. There was a small pool at the bottom end of the falls where lot of people were having a good time playing in the water .
There were many shops around it that provided swimming costumes on rent and there were many makeshift changing room too. Well there were some small stalls too where you could enjoy maggi noodles, some snacks and tea.
Overall the place was really crowded and mostly thronged by the young boys who occupied the major part of the pool and were having a gala time . What i didn't like about this place was that the natural beauty of the falls had been destroyed by the too much commercialization of the area. The scenic beauty of the falls was kind of spoilt by the quaint cluttered shops. And most importantly, the cleanliness was one point which the local municipal bodies should definitely think about. Still i enjoyed the view of the falls which was the only saviour in my trip.
Well if you go to Mussourie this place is not to be missed because of its natural beauty. These falls are opened only in the daytime and can be reached by road easily. And definitely the travel is worth it because of the lovely landscaped road trip and the beautiful view of the falls.
My overall ratings for this place
Beauty and visit worthiness of place- 5/5
Accessibility- 4.5/5( because of the hilly terrain)

Tips to keep in mind while visiting the falls
Best time to visit this place
From March to June and October to November is the best time as the temperature is cool at this time. Summers are the time when maximum tourists visit this hill station to get respite from the heat of Northern India plains. Avoid visiting during the Monsoons from July to September when there are landslides and roads are not suitable for driving.
What to wear
The weather is cold here so always carry your woolens here. I visited Kempty falls during summers and found weather was cold and chilly winds blew over the place. So i had to wear my thick quilted hooded jacket and shoes.
Where to eat
There are small food joints and stalls around the falls. Some sell the noodles, snacks and tea. But most of the food stalls are over-crowded and looked little unkempt. So I myself skipped eating at this place. But if you want then you can definitely try out the food here.
