This crescent shaped beach in South Goa is undoubtedly one of the best beaches of Goa and its beauty leaves you totally mesmerised by it. Its a package in itself because you get to see not only the beach but also some untouched islands and beautiful view of Western ghats, the mountain range along the western coast of India. Since we were staying in North Goa, it took us about 4 hours by our rented car to reach Palolem beach. But the journey to Palolem was dotted with green trees and beautiful farming lands and the beautiful landscapes of the Western Ghats. You will be so engrossed in admiring the beauty of South Goa that how 4 hours journey gets over, you don't even get to know.
Palolem Beach is a very less densely populated and less crowded beach of South Goa. As we entered the area we saw some small restaurants and budget hotels on way to beach. Its a very serene beach and very less commercialised too, so you won't see horde of people around and you can have a good peaceful time here. However disadvantage is that you won't find a good restaurant to dine in. Since we were really hungry we decided to overlook this fact and decided to have lunch at a small restaurant.
After having lunch, we proceeded to the main Palolem beach. The Palolem beach looks like a bay with rocky lands at both ends of the beach. We hired a hand-rowed boat to see the dolphins and to travel to the nearby islands and beaches. However our boatmen didnot give us life jackets and we too realised it too late. So I was kind of scared and though it sounds crazy, all the while I prayed to God to save me in case my boat topples over.
We first came across the Cancona island or monkey island which is inhabited by the apes and its rocks are too slippery. If trekking on this rocky island doesn't excite you then you can just go around this island sitting in your boat. Next came the butterfly island where boat cannot be anchored to the beach so you literally have to dive into water and swim to reach the island. So if you are a good swimmer then Butterfly island is all yours.
Next came the honeymoon beach which was a small secluded beautiful green beach. This beach is popular among the couples in search of seclusion from the crowd. And i must say what a beauty it was. A must visit place if you go to Palolem.
Finally on returning back to the main Palolem beach, our boatmen took us little farther away from the beach into the sea where we saw dolphins hopping in and out of water. What a sight it was. Visiting Palolem was a truely awesome experience that has definitely left me with some beautiful memories. This beach was the best beach I had seen in South Goa and should be definitely on everyone's list who is visiting Goa.
My overall ratings

Some important tips for Palolem beach
Where to eat
There are some small restaurants on this beach. Please be careful while choosing a restaurant there because almost all looked unhygienic there and i paid the price by contracting severe food poisoning there.
Best time to visit Palolem Beach
November to February is the best time to visit because Weather is cool during this time. However if you love rains and the lush green then July to September is the period for you because its the time of monsoons in Goa.
